Minecraft Sheep Keep Despawning. The pen needs to be a certain size unless mobs despawn. On our realm not sure if anyone else is rediscovering it, but sheep keep despawning from a 9 by 4 pen and llamas from a 4 by 4 pen.

It's 7x13 with a ceiling 4 blocks up. The answer is yes, animals despawn in minecraft. If any mob can travel more than 20 blocks in any direction, it'll despawn.
